My Five Senses

Sometimes we are lonely, in a deliciously melancholic, rather than depressive way. We live betwixt and between the realisation of love and the sense of our loved one’s absence, acknowledging that both affirm life to us. It is better than being numb. Love is not cerebral but it can reach that far too; as Shakespeare is so adept at disclosing however, love is more readily affirmed in one’s five senses than by argument and reason. When I was too poor to offer any other gift, this song was a Christmas present to the woman who is now my wife.

Sweetest spices and richest flavours...

Sweetest spices and richest flavours…

My Five Senses

With no food in the house

I’m still hungry for you

Sweetest spices and richest flavours

don’t satisfy as your kisses do

……It’s why I’m missing you.

Rich brocades and drapes of velvet...

Rich brocades and drapes of velvet…

I’m watching every penny

with nothing to lavish on you

but rich brocades and drapes of velvet

call to mind the texture of you

……It’s why I’m missing you.

My sad heart’s not despairing,

darling you’re the rare thing,

my five sense affirming,

could be good for me.

I hear the door and I hope its you...

I hear the door and I hope its you…

The airwaves are heavy with sadness

but, your voice breaks through

Fresh gentle breeze in the heart of summer

I hear the door and I hope its you

……It’s why I’m missing you.

The scent of a rainwashed English garden...

The scent of a rainwashed English garden…

When you hold me close

I savour your perfume

the scent of a rainwashed English garden

is akin to the fragrance you exude

……It’s why I’m missing you.

My sad heart’s not despairing,

darling you’re the rare thing,

my five sense affirming,

could be good for me.

Like a fire's warmth...

Like a fire’s warmth…

You bid me look beyond the clouds

to see approaching skies of blue

Like a fire’s warmth or the beauty of Amber

your eyes glow with love that makes me new

…..see why I’m missing you.
