Not many things you can do in a cyclone

There are times when we humans show our distinct strength in adapting to Nature and contesting ts power over us. Even more inaptly described as ‘superhuman’ and profoundly impressive is the human capacity to pull together and weather natural disasters communally. Humans are questioning beings that can ask “Do I need to suffer this again?”, “Is there something we can do?” Often there is. Sometimes however one cannot overcome what Nature throws at us. All we can do is accept our situatedness and hold on tight to life and to each other. This song is not intended as a flippant dismissal of the tragic suffering and loss of life that many people around the world face continually; instead it is a recognition that in the face of such overwhelming odds human love aids our survival. Not many things you can do in a cyclone

Ain’t no use in closing all the curtains,

ain’t no use in bolting all the doors.

Ain’t no use in changin’ your telephone number,

ain’t no use in lyin’ on the floor.

Ain't no use in taking out some more insurance

Ain’t no use in taking out some more insurance

Not many things you can do in a cyclone

Ain’t no point in trying to stand.

Here’s what I’m gonna do,

It’s a cunning plan…

I’m gonna hold your hand,

I’m gonna hold your hand.

Ain’t no use consulting your horoscope,

maybe a little late to pray.

Ain’t no use in taking out some more insurance,

or saving for a rainy day.

Not many things you can do in a cyclone

Ain’t no point in trying to stand.

Here’s what I’m gonna do,

It’s a cunning plan…

I’m gonna hold your hand,

I’m gonna hold your hand.

Ain’t no use in saying there ain’t no use,

who’s gonna know you’re throwin’ in the towel.

Ain’t no use in shouting, “I’m not a number”,

ain’t no use in claimin’ you’ve been let down

Ain’t no use in looking for someone to blame,

it’s a waste of time blaming yourself.

It’s so unnecessary wishin’ you was dead…

and please never wish you was someone else.

Not many things you can do in a cyclone

Ain’t no point in trying to stand.

Here’s what I’m gonna do,

It’s a cunning plan…

I’m gonna hold your hand,

I’m gonna hold your hand.
